Wagon Hire

In the Wagon Hire division, the company offers its customers, the hiring out of its own wagons, through its own sales and distribution network and by means of pool systems. In addition the company offers the management and technical servicing as well as the administration and maintenance of external wagon fleets.

In the Wagon Hire division, VTG markets a private fleet of approx. 50,000 rail freight cars, which consists of about 1,000 different wagon types. VTG thus possesses the largest private wagon fleet in Europe. The portfolio is mainly focussed on rail tank and modern high-capacity rail freight cars, in particular sliding-wall rail cars. VTG is also represented in North America, the largest rail logistics market of the world, via its U.S. subsidiary Texas Railcar Leasing.

To ensure its technical competence, the Group also has three workshops and a wagon manufacturing plant of its own.

In recent years, VTG has consistently enlarged its wagon fleet and grown purposefully. In the next few years this should be continued consistently. The main regional focus for the further expansions of its activities is intended to be Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the USA and the entry in the CIS with first focus Russia.

The main growth factor, in addition to the increase in the general occurrence of transport, will be private haulage. As a consequence of the liberalization of rail freight transport in Europe and especially in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, this will increase continuously. VTG plans to use the resulting potential through organic growth and targeted acquisitions as well as the expansion of the fleet in the strongly growing wagon divisions.
