Tank Container Logistics

In the Tank Container Logistics division, VTG offers its customers worldwide transport and logistics services with tank containers. VTG has a fleet of approx. 9,000 tank containers at its disposal. These are especially suitable for door-to-door transports, and therefore the transport of goods from the production facility to the customer, since transport using tank containers is independent of a connection to particular carriers.

Tank containers are used primarily for transporting liquid and temperature-controlled products of the chemical, petroleum and compressed gas industries. Tank containers also generate lower transshipment or reloading costs, because it is not the cargo carried by tank container that requires transshipment or reloding but the container as a whole. At the same time, liquid and sensitive goods in particular can be transported in a way that is environmentally safe, because hazards associated with reloading, such as, for example, mistakes in filling or transferring gases from one transport container to another, are minimized.

According to a study of the International Tank Container Organization (ITCO), the global unaccompanied transport with tank containers will, as a result of the increasing global orientation of companies, in future continue to develop positively with an average annual growth rate of five percent, and in inter-Asian traffic of over ten percent. VTG has therefore adapted the services it offers in the Tank Container Logistics division to meet the increasing internationalization of the markets. With the complete takeover of VOTG in spring 2007 as well as the 50 percent share at the joint venture Cosco VOTG Tanktainer Limited in China, VTG has further expanded this segment. The Chinese joint venture-partner Cosco is one of the world’s largest logistics companies.
